Call for Participation, Online Work-in-Progress Series Commercial Law, Governance, and Society: Global South Perspectives

Organised by: Global South Dialogue on Economic Crime (GSDEC)

First session: Wednesday, 29 October 2025

Format: Online

About the Series

The Commercial Law, Governance, and Society: Global South Perspectives work-in-progress series invites critical engagement with legal, institutional, and societal questions shaping economic development in the Global South. Although commercial law and governance are central to sustainable development and financial integrity, the global debate continues to overlook the voices, realities, and innovations from the Global South.

This series provides an interdisciplinary space for scholars, particularly those working on or from Global South contexts, to present in-progress research, receive constructive feedback, and build cross-regional academic networks. We particularly welcome contributions that explore the intersections of commercial law, governance, and economic crime, broadly defined.

Call for Abstracts

We invite submissions of 250-word abstracts from scholars at any career stage, especially early-career researchers and postgraduate students. We welcome work that engages with, but is not limited to, the following areas:

  • Institutional reform and regulatory practice in Global South jurisdictions
  • Technology, financial innovation, and regulatory responses
  • Political economy of governance and legal enforcement
  • Commercial law, development, and postcolonial theory
  • Sustainability and economic crime

Abstracts should outline the research question, approach, and intended contribution. Sessions will be informal and feedback-oriented, and presenters are encouraged to share drafts or slides in advance. Presentations will be 15–20 minutes in length, followed by a discussant-led Q&A session.

Please submit your abstracts here by Friday, 3rd October 2025.

Accepted speakers will be notified by Friday, 10 October 2025.
